Did you know that ‘sea-level’ is a carefully constructed myth? The sea itself isn’t. There is a distinct tilt (as the earth rotates about its axis) which causes a build-up of sea water to the west of the planet. It’s like that with Science-Fiction too.
The standard, and the ground line are not the same thing. You see, the shoulders of giants are aspirational. They are high places of light and craft and fiercely gleaming revolutionary ideas. We talk about standing on them because there’s standing room only, and precious little of that.
I’m asking what kind of foundation we are building our city by-laws on, and what we want them to be built on. I’m asking if we aren’t confusing our comfort zone with the public good. I’m asking about what structural inclusivity and dialogue really mean.

The old man is sketching, slowly. “I used to be an artist once.” He says.
I wish you joy in owning the magic of your child hood: having a house all your own, growing a plant from seed, getting a job, cooking a meal for yourself that tastes better than take out. Mundane never really meant ordinary 🙂
By all means, teach young people that the world is an unfair place where people react badly to difference sometimes. That’s not an excuse to BE those people reacting badly, and saying its in the name of teaching.
Some stories come from an idea, a dream, an image, a line of dialogue, a feeling. This one was a little different. This came from a place. I don’t know how many of you know the Johannesburg Botanical Garden?
So, apart from wonderful book sales and incredible fan interactions (which is actually what makes cons worth it) there was this wonderful thing that came out of rAge.
